Inspiration Board: Orange Crush

Reader Joyce Cho asked us about a wedding color alternative to the traditional Asian Red. What about orange! For an eye-popping fun color, try a bright shade of tangerine orange that can give off the the same rich ravishing color effect as red. Orange is a popular fall color, but given the right complements of pink or possibly yellow, it could create the most unforgettable juicy summer color combo! We love it!

Cherry Blossom Love from Martha Stewart Weddings

I am just tickled pink right now! The current Martha Stewart Weddings Spring issue is all about "Pretty in Pink!" I think I read the whole magazine without blinking once! I am so in love with cherry blossoms, so this whole spread in the magazine was a real treat.

These beautiful delicate blossoms, also known as Sakura, are beloved by the Japanese. Their short blooming season symbolize the fleeting, ephemeral nature of things... like your wedding day. The exact date when these trees start blooming varies year to year and is difficult to predict. The average peak bloom date for is the first week of April and only lasts for a few weeks at most before they blanket the ground. If you're a very lucky bride with your stars all aligned, you might be blessed with all the many cherry blossom possibilities: bouquets, boutonnieres, centerpieces, trimmings, flower girl petals, etc. And don't worry, you can't overuse these precious pink puffs.

"East Meets Guest" Inspiration from Brides Magazine

This inspiration board from Brides Magazine is almost a literal translation of EYE CANDY! Your eyes will just savor every little piece of bright colored goodness. Sometimes when we are focused on picking "wedding colors" we forget that it can be "wedding colorS" ~ plural! The creative folks that put together this elegant, yet explosive, scene simply incorporated some of the rich colors and patterned textiles that can be found all over Asia. They've designed a reception with the East in mind—the sunny chains of marigolds that mark every Indian festivity, the brilliant batiks of Indonesia, the vibrant tints of Japanese prints and origami.


Key your flowers to the season and infuse them with hidden blessings: in China, peonies represent the spring; lotus blooms are linked to the summer and to purity; chrysanthemums are plentiful in the fall; and Asian-themed winter weddings look best with plum blossoms, which feature five petals—one for each god of good luck.

Lisa Ling Chinese Wedding from InStyle Magazine

The invitation provided the first hint that the wedding of Lisa Ling, 34, and Paul Song, 42, would be like no other. "If you're cool," it read, "you'll dress Asian chic." Indeed, the ushers sported Cobra Kai uniforms à la The Karate Kid; the groom, oncologist Paul Song, changed into Converse Chuck Taylors and a traditional Korean hanbok for the reception; and his bride was ravishing in ... red!

The reception featured a fanciful feast fit for a celebrity. Five different restaurants catered the reception and brought festive decorations for their stations. Here, the dim sum chef chose birds carved from fruits and vegetables.

"I love that people really got into the spirit of the wedding," says actress Kelly Hu.
