Jamie & Teddy: Cambodian/Chinese Wedding in Washington DC

Asian weddings are like eye candy for the camera, you want to know why? Well get a look at these dazzling colors! Ahh-mazing! We're so lucky to share the work of Chris Baltazar, the supremely talented photographer from Washington DC. The fun-loving couple, Jamie & Teddy, did not hold back one bit for their wedding as they wanted to embrace both of their Asian heritages.  This is a beautiful cultural ceremony that is a mix of Cambodian and Chinese cultures. The Cambodian wedding ceremonies involved five individual ceremonies and multiple wardrobe changes. The Cambodian ceremonies included the Procession of the Groom, followed by the Hair Cutting and Cleansing, then the Passing of Blessings, then the Knot Tying Ceremony, and finally the Shower of Palm Flowers. Wow, and that's not all! The day-long cultural ceremonies were concluded with the most important Chinese wedding tradition – the Chinese Tea Ceremony. It might be a long day for them, but Jamie & Teddy seize all the good luck they can from their Asian wedding traditions!

Michelle & Tony: Paint the Town Red in New York City

When you see red, red, and more red, you know what that means... Chinese wedding!  We're so excited to share with you some more artistic stylings of Jen Huang who photographed this metro-traditional Chinese wedding in New York City.  Michelle and Tony shared an intimate marriage ceremony first at City Hall to make it official and then transformed the day into a traditional Chinese wedding celebration.  Michelle changed into a bright red Cheongsam dress for the Chinese tea ceremony.  The couple offer tea to the elders in the family and are given red envelope gifts and words of wisdom in exchange.  In the evening, family and friends celebrate the nuptials with a traditional Chinese banquet with lots of food and lots of toasts! Cheers!

Ideas for Asian Inspired Wedding Invitations

Never underestimate the value of the invitation to create a buzz or excitement about your wedding! The wedding invitation serves a greater purpose rather than being the messenger of the regular old who, what, when, and where. It should also embody the tone and personality of the couple. If you're Asian and want to channel cultural traditions and influences then definitely include colors, symbols, or characters that have meaning to you, your fiancé, or your families. 

The Double Happiness symbol is a favorite and can be easily incorporated into many designs for a Chinese wedding invitation. The Chinese also commonly use the Dragon and Phoenix, which are mythical creatures that represent the husband and wife in harmony.  There are countless other designs for an Asian inspired invitation, such as bamboo, cherry blossoms, and lanterns that give a hint for your guests to look forward to an Asian inspired wedding!  The options are endless, take a look at our awesome finds:

Panle & John: Traditional Wedding with a Chinese Flair

Wow! What a classy couple. Thanks to Boston wedding photographer Heather Parker for these wonderful photos of Panle & John's wedding. We're in love with her gorgeous vintage gown and classic string of pearls. And in the evening, she takes an exciting Chinese twist on things, by donning a beautiful red Chinese dress and incorporating eye-catching red accents throughout the decor.

I was selected by John and Panle as their wedding photographer for their wedding. Panle got ready at the Meridien, and wore a very classic, vintage wedding dress previously worn by her mother in law. The wedding ceremony was at the Ruggles Baptist Church and was translated in both English and Mandarin Chinese. After the wedding I hopped in the back seat (if you’d even call it that!) of a red Mini Cooper convertible John and Panle had rented from Zipcar for the wedding day. John had got a wedding photography permit for Boston Common so we were able to take photos without any hassle on their wedding day. After some time in the park, we headed down Mass Ave. to the Charles River to get a few skyline photos of the bride and groom on their wedding day. We returned to the hotel and Panle changed in Chinese tradition changed into her red qipao, or cheongsam. Cocktail hour was held on the rooftop garden at the hotel followed by a reception filled with accents of red, pink, orange, and the double happiness symbol along with some coordinating lighting design available by the hotel. Flower design was by my favorite Boston wedding florist, Winston Flowers, who also supplied flowers for Bonnie & Jeff’s wedding at the Taj Hotel.
