Jamie & Teddy: Cambodian/Chinese Wedding in Washington DC

Asian weddings are like eye candy for the camera, you want to know why? Well get a look at these dazzling colors! Ahh-mazing! We're so lucky to share the work of Chris Baltazar, the supremely talented photographer from Washington DC. The fun-loving couple, Jamie & Teddy, did not hold back one bit for their wedding as they wanted to embrace both of their Asian heritages.  This is a beautiful cultural ceremony that is a mix of Cambodian and Chinese cultures. The Cambodian wedding ceremonies involved five individual ceremonies and multiple wardrobe changes. The Cambodian ceremonies included the Procession of the Groom, followed by the Hair Cutting and Cleansing, then the Passing of Blessings, then the Knot Tying Ceremony, and finally the Shower of Palm Flowers. Wow, and that's not all! The day-long cultural ceremonies were concluded with the most important Chinese wedding tradition – the Chinese Tea Ceremony. It might be a long day for them, but Jamie & Teddy seize all the good luck they can from their Asian wedding traditions!

Michelle & Tony: Paint the Town Red in New York City

When you see red, red, and more red, you know what that means... Chinese wedding!  We're so excited to share with you some more artistic stylings of Jen Huang who photographed this metro-traditional Chinese wedding in New York City.  Michelle and Tony shared an intimate marriage ceremony first at City Hall to make it official and then transformed the day into a traditional Chinese wedding celebration.  Michelle changed into a bright red Cheongsam dress for the Chinese tea ceremony.  The couple offer tea to the elders in the family and are given red envelope gifts and words of wisdom in exchange.  In the evening, family and friends celebrate the nuptials with a traditional Chinese banquet with lots of food and lots of toasts! Angel & Sebastian: Aloha! An Asian Wedding in Hawaii

Aloha and happy Monday!  Photographer Jen Huang of NY and CA, flew down to Hawaii for this intimate destination wedding in Lahaina, Maui. Angel is Chinese and Sebastian is Vietnamese and they shared a beautiful Hawaiian style wedding ceremony as well as a traditional Asian tea ceremony. We absolutely adore the charming tropical details such as Angel's bejeweled flip flops! We love the beautiful bright colors mirrored by the colorful rainbow in the sky. What a perfect way to top off this lovely Asian wedding in Hawaii!

Patricia & Richard: Stylish Wedding in Wine Country

Ngan & John: Vietnamese Wedding in the Mountains of Canada

Mountains! Forests! Caves! Dragons! Goats!  And the most important thing: a happy couple in love.

From my very first lengthy and chatty phone call with Ngan, in response to her enquiry email, I knew this was a wedding that I wanted to photograph. I book most of my couples without meeting up first and I’m used to getting right into the swing of things on the wedding day itself, so it’s such a good thing when you can click so well and have such a cool connection right away.

John and Ngan were married at the Juniper Hotel in Banff, which is a stylish, modern-rustic venue away from the main town. The place has an eco-friendly focus and is entirely wind-powered, which is pretty cool. Ngan and John were ably assisted in many things throughout their day by wedding planner Sonia and her assistant from Cornerstone Events. They did a fantastically amazing job and I highly recommend them.

The first event of the day was John and Ngan’s Vietnamese tea ceremony. We’ve photographed a number of Asian tea ceremonies (Vietnamese, Chinese, Cambodian, etc.) and they have to be some of the most challenging things we photograph. So much happens so fast! And it’s all important! Lol! If you’ve never seen one, imagine a western ceremony where the first kiss happens in the blink of an eye every few seconds for half an hour and that will give you some idea of the timing of it all. Of course, there aren’t actual kisses happening constantly in the tea ceremony; they exchange gifts and greetings.

At the end of their tea ceremony they had a surprise for their guests: traditional dragon dancers! That was so cool! There were eight of them and there was so much sound, colour and energy in the dancing! Then John and Ngan snuck off with us for some quick portraits in their traditional Vietnamese dress.

Their western wedding ceremony was outside on the Juniper’s terrace area and, although the weather had been threatening snow, the sun popped out just for their wedding. After that we visited a few locations around Banff for their portraits. They were so easy to take photos of. In fact, their whole wedding party was very easy-going. And John has to be one of the smiliest grooms we’ve ever seen! He basically didn’t stop smiling all day!

Their reception was full of laughs and there was a touching moment when Ngan gave a speech to her family in Vietnamese. I have no idea what she said, but there was so much emotion in the room that I nearly cried, too!

Belinda & Peter: Elegant Ocean View Korean Wedding

I just adore this classic elegant wedding from Stephanie Williams Photography. Belinda and Peter have a traditional Western wedding at La Venta in Palos Verdes. With that breathtaking ocean view setting, you won't need to do much to make a beautiful wedding.  Belinda makes classic elegance look so easy with just a flower in her hair and a string of pearls around her neck. Simply perfect.  The couple also share a glimpse of their beautiful culture by also having a dual Chinese and Korean tea ceremony while wearing traditional colorful hanbok clothing.
